VESTIBULITIS

VESTIBULITIS

VESTIBULITIS

MAIN SYMPTOMS:

Vulvar vestibulitis is a pathology of the external genital organs in women, which is characterized by redness and swelling of the mucous membrane in the area of the entrance to the vagina, as well as severe painful sensations.

THE REASONS

Pathological condition occurs against the background of some other diseases of the external and internal genital organs in women. In particular, vestibulitis may develop against the background of such illnesses as:

  • atrophic vulvitis ;
  • chronic vaginitis
  • chronic bartholinitis ;
  • inflammatory processes in the urethra;
  •  coccal infection in the vagina.

Herpes virus can also cause disease . However, reliable data on exactly in which cases there is a likelihood of vestibular development, and in which there is no - has not yet been clarified.

The mechanism of development of the disease process is to increase the tactile nerves due to the impact on them of bacteria or viruses. Such nerves feel pain several times more, so the first symptom of such a pathology as vestibulitis is severe pain in the vaginal region, which occurs when you try to insert a penis, a gynecological mirror, and even a finger.

There is also a genetic predisposition in women for this disease. In this case, the pain occurs during the first sexual contact.

According to some theories, various chemical components can cause such a pathological condition, for example, contained in intimate hygiene products or sanitary napkins. And even male sperm can become an allergen that can cause vestibulitis in women.

CLINICAL MANIFESTATIONS

The main symptoms of such a pathology as vestibulitis are pain that occurs when you touch the entrance of the vagina or when you press in this area. The severity of pain can be different - some women have pain tolerance, and therefore they can even have sex, while others have too much pain, and even a simple touch is too painful, so the introduction of the penis into the vagina becomes impossible.

In the future, women with such a pathology as vestibulitis develop a fear of sexual contact, which has to be treated not only with traditional methods (with the help of medical preparations), but also with the help of psychotherapy. It is noteworthy that 90% of women with vestibulitis also suffer from the accompanying pathology - vaginismus , characterized by involuntary contraction of the muscles of the vagina, preventing the introduction of the penis or any other object to the vulva.

When examining women with this pathology, the doctor may see red spots of small size in the lesions. Other symptoms of this pathology, such as vulvar vestibulitis, are:

  • swelling of the mucosa;
  • serous or purulent plaque;
  •  the appearance of a crater-like depression in the mucosa.

Due to the fact that a woman can not lead a normal sex life and is experiencing complexes and dissatisfaction, she becomes irritable, sullen, quick-tempered. Often, against the background of this pathology, women develop deepest depression , which requires specialized psychotherapeutic treatment.

DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT

The diagnosis of vestibulitis can be made to a woman on the basis of a gynecological examination by a doctor. To confirm the diagnosis and its differentiation with other diseases of the female genital organs, methods of laboratory diagnosis, including an analysis of AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases , are prescribed .

Also carried out an ultrasound of the pelvic organs, takes a smear on the microflora and cytology.

Treatment of this disease can be conservative and surgical. It is mainly used conservative treatment, which is based on the appointment of such drugs as:

  • anti-inflammatory;
  • antibiotics;
  • hormonal preparations in the form of tablets and for local use;
  • anticonvulsants;
  • interferon injections;
  • painkillers.

A prerequisite for successful treatment is the combination of drug therapy and physiotherapy. And, as mentioned above, patients with this pathology are treated by a psychiatrist.

If there is no effect from conservative therapy for a certain time, surgical treatment is indicated. The main indications for its conduct are:

  • the appearance of unbearable pain;
  • violation of sensitivity in the area of the entrance to the vagina;.
  •  the development of intoxication ;
  • development of irritable bowel syndrome ;
  •  interstitial cystitis.

The operation for this ailment is not difficult and is performed under local or general anesthesia (no more than an hour). After the procedure, the patient stays in the hospital for one day under the supervision of a doctor, and then can return home. Recovery after surgery occurs very quickly, especially when using modern methods of surgical treatment.

Some women use popular treatment to combat this disease. It should be said that such treatment is not highly effective, but in combination with drug therapy can help to get rid of the symptoms of the disease for a long time. In particular, the treatment is shown, consisting in washing with potassium permanganate solution. Or you can lubricate the affected area with 1% syntomycin emulsion, which will reduce swelling and inflammation, as well as reduce the severity of pain.
